GIRL TALK – FEED THE ANIMALS – ILLEGAL ART

The new Girl Talk album is out. If you like mash-ups in any capacity, you MUST download this.

The cool thing is, he’s doing the same thing Radiohead did. You can download it and pay whatever you want, including zero dollars. If you say zero dollars, it asks you why and lists a few options to choose from. I chose zero dollars, and said ‘I may donate later.’ My mindset is: If I download it and listen to it once, I’ll pitch him a dollar. If I get mad massive ear-worm and listen to it on repeat for a month, I’ll pitch him like 20$. It may seem backwards but I would debate that music is ‘worth’ different amounts to different people, and I fully support paying artists what their art is worth.

That also means not paying for shit. I didn’t like the Radio head album, I didn’t even listen to it once all the way through, so I don’t feel guilty one bit for not paying them a dime. I’m also not a huge Radiohead fan. I’m sure the tiny bit of bandwidth I used to get the files from them was offset and paid for by someone who paid like 100$ for the album.

I also know that he’s getting literally every penny that I pay, so my ‘donation’. I’m really enjoying and appreciating this rising trend of allowing the consumer to pay MORE for products they think are worth it. For example, previously, if you like a band, and have their CDs there’s no other way of giving them money to fuel their art. Now, that is changing.

So far it’s amazing and I have a feelin’ I’m going to be pitching him some good cash.
