Is Your Life Just One Big RPG?

This video is worth watching if you’re at all into games.  It’s long but bare with me.

It’s an interesting take on our current culture.  Games are overlapping into our daily lives more and more.  We ‘play’ with toys on the web like Ebay, Facebook, Foursquare.   We carry around supercomputers in our pockets. The world knows where we are at any given time, as do we know where we are in the world.  This smartypants talks about one possible direction we’re going in, in how the ‘achievement culture’ that games have created will spill over into the corporate world and they will use these tools against us.

My only substantial comment is what I’ve said before about marketing: It’s constantly evolved with us over time.  Originally it started out as ‘buy this product,’ then it turned into ‘buy this product, it will make your life better!’, and things like ‘buy this product if you want to be like this person!’ and so on and so on.  This is just another step along those lines, I think.  I don’t think it’ll get to the point that this guy speaks about, but it’s interesting to think about.

So again, watch if you can spare the time!
